As of version 11.11.0 of Workflow Essentials all our functions and default values can be migrated from one Jira instance to another with Configuration Manager for Jira, which guarantees keeping the references even if the ID's are changing, like with custom fields.
To check if the integration with Workflow Essentials is active, you can check the "App Integrations" section of Configuration Manager:

Please note that due to an API limitation, the Condition inside the Required Fields Validator is currently not supported. Please make sure to handle references inside these Conditions manually.

For keeping migrations with Workflow Essentials data easy and consistent, we support two third-party apps:
- Configuration Manager for Jira by Botronsoft
- Project Configurator for Jira by Adaptavist
Both apps support all the post functions, validators and conditions of Workflow Essentials.
Default Values for Create Screens are currently only supported by Configuration Manager.
